First coffee machine with integrated laser interferometer

Scientists at the Institute of Process Measurement and Sensor Technology and the NanoFab Research Training Group have demonstrated the integration of a laser interferometer into a coffee machine for the first time.
This means that the filling of coffee cups can now be dosed much more precisely than before. The interferometer can also be used to determine the spectrum of the coffee during filling by means of Fourier spectroscopy. This enables a highly accurate qualitative and quantitative analysis of the caffeine. Further research work is now to follow, using machine learning methods to evaluate the spectroscopic data in such a way as to intervene directly in the dosing process and directly influence the quality of the brewed coffee and tailor it to the taste of the coffee drinker.
